My piece is a fish with nine different patterns. I chose the designs for each sections based on how straight or curvy the section of the fish was and how straight or curvy the design was. The designs I chose are probably on the more beginner side of zentangle patterns. I've never done this before so I didn't want to do something too difficult. My piece in my opinion turned out pretty good. I didn't mess up any of the patterns for the most part.
I don't consider the zentangle drawing relaxing. The zentangle takes a lot of focus and concentration to do every pattern correctly. The drawing was fun but I didn't believe it was relaxing. Zen does match this style I guess since the drawings are so complicated and unique.

This is my inspired ink drawing. The drawing is of the superhero Batman. I went with Batman because he's always been one of my favorite superheroes and his costume went well with this project. The project was done all in black ink, which is the same color of Batman's costume. I used the hatching method with a sharpie ink pen and drew out the shadows on Batman. I had the light coming from the right side which made the left side of Batman be shaded. I searched a regular picture of Batman and I tried to match the shadows in that picture in my drawing. They looked somewhat similar. I used both skinny pens and large pens to make the drawing look more three-demensional.
Drawing an ink eye wasn't very difficult for me to accomplish. I did the details in pencil first so I could erase any mistakes then after I finished the details I went over them with ink. I included the eye into a zoomed in section of a person's face. I drew facial eyebrows, a part of a nose, dimples, freckles, and hair on the person's face to give it more detail. The blood vessel parts I incorporated into the eye give the drawing a little bit of creepy factor into it.
This drawing was a famous painting mixed with a cartoon character. Since we had pop art, we decided to morph Andy Warhol's painting of Marilyn Monroe and Bart Simpson. Pop art was in New York City during the 1960's which the movements drawings made their art from popular culture objects, people, and items. Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein were two famous artists from that movement. The painting of Marilyn Monroe was just her face and Bart Simpson had relatively easy face to draw and morph with. We put in all the make up details that was in the real painting.
For my two in one drawing, I decided to morph a lion and a horse. I morphed them because they had some similar features but also some distinct different features. Such as: a lions mane and a horses hooves. Two distinct features that they both don't share. I thought the mane and the facial features on the animal came out well, but I would change in the future how I blended some parts of the drawing. The body for example didn't come out as I hoped for. For the most part I think the drawing as whole turned out well. This illustration Friday topic was People. My drawing was a four people doing normal things people would do during the day. One was walking, another was two people greeting each other and talking, and the last one was someone excercising. The only challenging part of the drawings was getting the body part in the right position and making it look natural. This observational drawing is of a white Honda CR-V. It was difficult getting all the parts of the car at the correct scale and placed correctly. I drew this vehicle because it was a challenge but at the same time enjoyable. These two paintings are made by the artist Michael Kagan. Kagan likes to make his work on the man-made objects, the ones that are able to kill the operator instantly that is inside but also protects the operator at the same time. As you can see from these works of art, Kagan uses many different colors and thick strokes. To accomplish this look, he uses an impasto technique with thick strokes that are deliberate and at the same time unique. This style seems to show the aggression in his use of oil paint on linen.
He is a New York-based artist that switches between representational and abstract styles. "Each painting is an image, a snapshot, a flash moment, a quick read that is locked into memory by the iconic silhouettes." Kagan's well known paintings have been made since 2010. Kagan has a website where all his paintings are published. http://michaelkagan.com/. |
