Part 1:
A. Art Critique Process
1. Describe- Identify the materials and genre of the piece. Describe the elements of art. Explain everything in the artwork
2. Analyze- See how lines, shapes, colors, and textures are used in the piece. Find examples of unity through repetition. Look for focal point of the artwork
3. Interpret- What is going on in the piece? What is the purpose of the piece? What is the artist saying?
4. Decide/Evaluate- Do you like the piece? Why or why not? Is it a quality piece? What is the best part of the piece? What's the worst part? Is the artist successful?

1. Describe- I used black mat board for the background and prisma colored pencils for the portrait. The portrait is of my grandfather and behind him is an Air Force jet and a guitar because he served in the Air Force and he likes to play the guitar. I used a mixture of dark and light shades to give his face a three-dimensional effect. Using the prisma colors I had a smooth texture to the piece, which made the piece form together better. I made the piece vertical since both the jet and guitar are long items.
2. Analyze- Lines in this piece represent separation between two objects. They split the jet, guitar, and face. Also the lines separate parts of the same object. Different colors for all three items also separate the objects. Silver for the jet, brown for the guitar, and tan for my grandfather. Geometric shapes are used in this piece. Ovals, triangles, and circles are all used in this piece. The three items are all brought together by using the prisma colored pencils the create all of them and give them all the same texture. The focal point of the piece is my grandfather. The jet and guitar are used because they describe who he is and what his life is like.
3. Interpret- The piece shows what my grandfather's life was like and these two things describe who he is. I am saying in this piece that my grandfather is a interesting man and these are two of him that describe him.
4. Decide/Evaluate- I like this piece of art. I believe what I created represented my topic well and is a true portrait not of just the actual person, but also their life. I would call this artwork quality. It's not the best piece ever created but the piece was done as well as I could do it. I think the best part about the portrait was the face. The face I drew actually does look like my grandfather and I was surprised it was that close when I finished it. I think the worst part of the piece was the Air Force jet. I should've added more details to it. Maybe some shadows and highlights would've looked good on it too. I am not a successful artist. I try to work with the limited abilities I have with art and do my best but the pieces aren't very good.
1. Art is creating creative items, pieces, or objects out of materials to express feelings or ideas. For example, for the walk in my shoes project, I painted a baseball on a baseball field to show how big baseball is apart of my life. If you took a walk in my life for just a day, baseball would work its way in there no matter what you would be doing as me.
3. I believe there is a gray area when it comes to plagiarism. In most cases, I do not think people intend to copy someone else when they're creating something, they just like the idea that person had so they would like to use too. The person that originally had the idea should take it as a compliment because the other person(s) like their idea. Also, the person who is using the other person's idea will probably make a different version of the piece anyways. Feeding off one another and innovating art will make projects even better. For the inspired by portal project, we took someone's idea and made our own version of it. I took someone's crashing wave idea and turned it into my own.
7. I think the point of this class was to learn how to be creative with different types of artwork and learn how to enjoy making art. I learned that making your own art comes from what you like and your feelings are towards different things. Art allows you to be a free spirit and lets you create something out of whatever you want. The locker installation project we did with a partner allowed us to create whatever we wanted to. Luke and I created an ocean inside the locker. We had fishes, jellyfish, seaweed, bubbles, sand, rocks, and even a scuba diving pig. We were given the opportunity to create what we wanted to and we did.
